Laptops by nature can get really hot, similar to the reasons a Phone can (esp I-phone [IMO]) .

If it doesn't crash , then get some compressed air, and clean out all vents, continue testing, but do some actual tests, I have yet to see any attempts, run the tests and software suggested, post results.
Yes do what he said, i keep my laptop back elevated so that it doesnt over heat, if its on a metal/wood desk it will over heat quickly if left sitting on it. An over heated computer also causes lag,

This was so fail. If you had asked him for specs of his PC, you would of known it was a laptop. Remind me of the India people on the customer service lines that give you that give you automated responses.

Buy a laptop cooler, they arn't that expensive (then again I can't say they are effective either). Open up your laptop CPU hatch (some manufactures have custom screws, in that case, try to contact a professional or use a Dremmel to create a philips screw head (something like this: Dremmel the Screws)

Then take out the CPU heatsink and give it a good blow/cleaning. (Beware that the heatsink gets VERY hot and should only be touched after a good amount of cooling).
You can buy compressed air for more cleaning. Try re-appling thermal grease.

Please supply us with laptop model and test results or else we can not help you at all with your problem except for general advice.
    Any donations would help

Just a note, we asked for specs and the OP didn't provide them, However it is your statement that fails.

Here is the specs of one of my many test machines, this is my windows XP sp3 machine.

    Intel Atom processor 230 1GB DDR2 160GB hard drive

The above specs are indicative of a ...?? Laptop, right? so one would assume it was, however it is actually a desktop machine, it is my acer revo. (got it on sale February, love it)

Same goes for the specs on my WindTop P series. It runs with laptop specs , it is actually a AIO desktop, so specs does us no good on determining if its a laptop or a desktop .

@ topic, we really need those test results ,

I kept my computer on for a month (Didn't do much). But, I'd keep it off the ground or table or something with books or something and use that to circulate the air around the laptop. or you can air condition the room?
No I do not make game hacks anymore, please stop asking.

The Atom and the RAM sounded laptop but the HDD blew me off my feet for a laptop. Then I noticed that it wasn't one. How is the Atom going? I have a duo SU series (ultra power saving). This laptop is basically a beefed up netbook (A dedicated nVidia gfx with a intel integrated hybrid and a 14.5" screen and a CD rom...)

Yes Specs please? Or would you like me to TV you?
    Any donations would help

The only reason I got the Revo was for testing, Atoms heat up to fast, they require more cooling and in a OEM compact device, I can't provide more cooling. But when you own numerous test computers and 3 are on one desk, you start looking to save space, so a Revo and a Touch screen All In One(windtop P series) won't be running any games, but they are great for testing single applications, hosting test database, and local web apps (for debugging) and multi-threading.
