I would recomend Cheat Engine, its very easy to learn the basics of memory editing and it allows you to easly compile what you've found into a trainer.

Vb is the best cause of gui and the extra what CE doesn't offer Plus you can say you know a language...

Yes i know its free but im guessing that guy doesn't know any programming so i would recommend using Cheat Engine but if he is familiar with VB then go with VB since you can do so much more stuff.
