I don't see why you're saying real university is so expensive. I pay $3,000 a semester for a top 20 public university considering I'm an in state student. If you're planning on getting a bachelors degree after you get your associates you're going to have a hard time transferring. The work load at a university is probably much more than a community college and your community college probably didn't prepare you for the classes you're going to have to take your junior year of university. If you're just planning on getting an associates degree then obviously just go to community college, but don't expect a really nice job afterwards unless you're doing like welding.

    Uh..

Tuition at UNC (University of Northern Colorado) here is ~$23,000 ALONE not including dorm iirc.
Tuition at community colleges is less than $4000

4 years of college at UNC = ~$92,000
    4 years at a CC = ~$16,000

I pay $3,000 a semester for my in state university. The only scholarship I get is a state scholarship for good grades / test scores as a high school student. I don't get any scholarships for my financial status.

The ROI for a bachelors degree is well over the difference of probably $20,000 or so when compared to a community college.

Also, if you think where you get your degree from has no impact upon your chances in the job market you've gone insane. A 4.0 at a local community college is dog poo compared to a 4.0 at a ivy league school. Employers do care. If they didn't care there wouldn't be such a difference between starting salary ( http://www.payscale.com/college-salary-report/bachelors ). You think Google is going to recruit from a community college? Funny.

Did you even read the Time article?

Because a "normal" person is going to attend an ivy league school simply to be picked up by a large company like Google or Facebook:

    http://www.payscale.com/research/US/...e,_Inc./Salary
    (88-180)

Software engineers at Google are making just around the pay for Software Engineers anyway:

    http://www.payscale.com/research/US/...ngineer/Salary
    (55-120)

I can go to a normal in state university, get a job as a software engineer at a company and make just the same amount as someone at Google depending on what I've done in college, experience etc.

Also before you say how big of a difference 55 is to 88, they're ranges, not exacts, and I could use the same example for any of the other careers Google has.

I never implied Google would recruit from a community college but I did demystify your "community college is only good for welding" mantra.

Those are salaries. What about bonuses? Have you seen the bonuses Google give's their employees? The benefits? No other small company can afford to give you those benefits. They give you stock for the company. It's honestly not even close to regular software companies. And yeah, $33k and $60k difference is a lot of money, even if they're just "ranges". Some jobs don't even make $33k annually. Community college is only good if you're studying a trade. Otherwise you will be eaten alive in the job market by everyone else who has bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees.

I mean if a CC offers a bachelors?

Red Rocks CC here is the first community college in the state to offer a bachelors in Nursing which is a huge advancement but yes typically CCs don't offer over an associates.

As well as doing good grades at school. Make sure you develop a good social network or expand your circle. You never know may be one day someone in your circle could be the key to your future.
