# Thread: -6x - 10 = 3x + 8. x=? Can someone teach me?

1. Ok LISTEN
-6x - 10 = 3x + 8
x=?
Easy, First the equation ask you whats the value of "x" soo
we want to leave the x alone with no number beside it (-6) buut beside -6 we have - 10 soo we first have to get rid of - 10 we have to move it to the other side of the equation by doing that we change the symbol (from Negative to Positve ) and we put it beside the 8 it should look like this
-6x= 3x + 8 + 10
Now that we have our variable alone we solve the right sie of the equation
3+8 ?= 11
11+10? = 21
Ok so we now have -6x=21x
now we have to cancel the -6x so the "x" can be alone so we put
-6x/-6 = 21x/-6 ( we have to do the same thing on the other side hence the 21/-6)
-6x / -6 cancel each other so the x stays alone so it says X = 21/-6
that is your answer but we can still divde with gives us a total of
X=-3.5
if u still have doubts Pm me
@Earphones

2. (3 x (-3.5)) + 8 = -2.5
((-6) x (-3.5)) - 10 = 11

((-6) x (-2)) - 10 = 2
(3 x (-2)) + 8 = 2

@Earphones
you dont have the variable alone, you cant add 3x + 8 + 10
aha

5. inhuman LOL your telling me LOL that u cant add 3x + 8 + 10 !!!! LoL WOW!! kK KK
Your kidding RIGHT ? LoL!!!! Ooh and when U Quote finish quoting the whole thing So pepole wont get confused

6. -6x - 10 = 3x + 8
First you need to put like terms together. Those with X, put them together, those without, put them together.
Putting them together can be done by either subtracting or adding in this equation, and to do so you'll need to subtract or add to both sides, cancelling out one of the numbers.
-6x = 3x + 8 + 10 (Add 10 to both sides because it's -, cancelling the 10 on the left)
-6x = 3x + 18 ( 8 + 10 = 18)
-6x - 3x = 18 (subtract 3x from both sides because it's +)
-9x = 18 (-6x + -3x = -9x)
18 / -9x = -2
X = -2

Get Bagatrix from @KING it's in one of his threads, I used it for Geometry, Algebra 2 and now Trigonometry / Pre-Calculus.

8. Jabuuty and InHuman are right, -Fail- failed.

9. Oh god u knwo what FCK it LoL 2+2= 4 FTW

That's why I said it

12. Jabuuty is right.
The -FAIL- missed some equasions.
And the OP made it look like the number 8 had an "x" too.

-6x - 10 = 3x + 8
-6x = 3x + 8 + 10
-6x - 3x = 8 + 10
-9x = 18
-x = 2
x = -2

Problem solved!
