Unless you know about any deals BEFORE HAND, or shop on CYBER MONDAY I wouldn't even think about specs. Just know what the best bang for your money and remember that at most places you can buy first and return later.

My advice is to probably spend a bit more for that longer time span between the laptop your buying now from the time you get your next one. I'd advise you getting a 900$, bit pricey but it'll pay off in the long run with the year long warranty's and the performance.
