    Thumbs down Can't make a skin.

    Hey guys,
    I've made a thread about my problem, but I didnt fully say what my probem is and i dont want to bump it.


    Anyways, im trying to make a weapon skin.

    THe problem i get is at the start up of MW2 (Steam version). it crashes and I get an error.


    Heres what I do to make a custom texture:
    1. I take a weapon skin from /mw2/main/iw_07, say the UMP's
    2. I convert it from IWI to DDS with IWI x DDS (Version 3.0)
    3. I open it in CS5 with the DDS extension.
    4. I edit it, and save it as D X T 5 Interpoliated Alpha, NO mips.
    (already @ step 2, when i convert the iwi, the file size changes from ~1300 bites to ~1000.)
    5. I convert back to IWI.
    6 Hex edit it for the fix. I also noticedd that after doing trhe 2 line insert paste, in the 3 line, there already are 4 ''00'' Digits.. but i add 4x ''00'' digits anyways, and remove the last 4 digits.
    7 Do the CRC32 Fix
    8 put file back in Mw2
    9 bla bla I start MW2MP and at startup menu it immediatly crahses..




    can anyone help?

    does you gun skin have any alpha channels?

    No, it doenst. The USP .45 doesnt have any alpha channels... and when there is no alpha channels, i just save it as d x t 1 no mips.. I think it has to do with the converter because after conversion of iwi2dds (with a programm called IWI_X_DDS ) the file size changes from ~1300KB to 1100-1200KB..
    but the ump did have an apla channel (and saved that as inerpoliated alpha (/ D X T 5)

    Did you also think of takeing off the last 4 combinations of digets while being working at the HEXes part?

    Generate MIPMaps. All guns, and pretty much any object in game that is not a HUD, or Scope overlay needs MIPMaps.

    When you have converted the original .iwi to .dds, do the two files have the same size? If yes, save it with no mipmaps but if no, you must save it with mipmaps.

    ive tried that too. But yes, when i convert from orignal IWI to DDS the file size IS different. its smaller by about 10-20%.

    Gee well its not like I know what I am talking about or anything .

    Generate MIPMaps. ALL weapon skins need to have MIPMaps generated. Thats why your file is slightly smaller.

    Just active the "Generate MIP maps" option.
