    Unhappy Steam/Black Ops

    Problems:

    • Steam takes forever to login
    • Steam takes forever afterwards to open up the store(can't do anything meanwhile)
    • Games take forever to start
    • Black Ops says "Download starting" but it never does

    Information:

I have Black Ops since the release date and it was working just fine until now. When the patch came out my Black Ops and Steam completely fucked up.

    Windows XP 32-Bit

    What I have tried yet:

    1. Delete .blob files.
    2. Change downloadregion.
    3. Delete everything except steam.exe and steamapps folder and let it redownload.
    4. Rebooted Router(Telekom Speedport).
    5. Checked my firewall
    6. Use Spybot Search & Destroy
    7. Close all unimportant processes. (even Antivirus etc)
    8. Run CCleaner
    9. Reboot PC multiple times.
    10. Set HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam\Rate to 3500.
    11. Start Steam.exe with "-tcp" parameter.
    12. System recovery
    13. Reinstall steam COMPLETELY(except steamapps folder).

I am close to insanity, halp.

And yes, I did PM the steam support, no answer yet, I cannot wait.

Vacations and I cannot play. Obvious RLRQ.

    Help your favourite minion

Tried a different PC? I don't have the problem with steam nor Black ops singleplayer or multiplayer.

    I don't have problems either...
Steam is just running fine, I can access the Store pages in a second, nothing wrong...
    Defrag?

    Reinstall the game as well?

And Steam is stupid. Why do we need it? If I want online friends, I rather use XFire which is always working and you can even play the game without it. Now... when Steam fails, you're pretty much f***** in your ass.

    Unable to connect to steam-network.

    Fuck steam

if you are using a legit version of Windows XP
    try to update it
    http://update.microsoft.com
you need to use crap IE Explorer

if you aren't use a legit xp version (cracked or whatever )
    download the updates manually

e.g typ in goggle "Windows XP service pack 3" after you got installed sp3 enter in google "Windows XP update pack" but be careful only download it from trusted/known site to avoid scams/fake

if that all don't fix your problem update your network/pci lan cards drivers

the last think if that not working download netframework 3.5 ( not 4.0 or 4.5 beta because that makes your pc slowing loading )

    Fine
He said its been working before, and I doubt steam would take the time to update itself just to stop itself from working on cracked windows versions.

The only thing I can think of (seeing as how you already did everything else I would have said ) is to just wait it out to see if it is a problem on the steam servers end. They go down a lot, and stop people from logging in. But I am logged in so idk why it would be just you.

the only other thing it would be is your PC, but if its worked before no reason it wont now. But if nobody remembers, the second patch for BO actually broke the game for more people than it helped. So do other games work? (If you can even log in)

I cannot even login, it's pc related since I can login on my laptop.

Reinstalled steam multiple times, didn't help Q_Q

The only thing that comes to mind is to do a full defrag/registry fix.

What comes to mind is that something like liberation messed with some core elements of steam in the reg or something that arent being fixed after reinstalling.

I already cleaned my registry + defragged the whole steamfolder.

I have never used liberation btw.

It works fine on my notebook(so it's not my router).

And I cbf to reinstall my whole computer just because steam is a bitch.

    Unable to connect to steam...bla

The OS itself has nothing to do with his problem. I have XP 32 bit with SP3 installed and I just got done playing TF2 IN steam.

Frankly, the problem sounds like something steam would just up and do. If reinstalling, fixing registry, scanning for viruses, and everything else doesnt work, I have no idea what to do :X
