    Smudging in CS5

    Something's up with it.

Maybe it's just my settings, but I've looked everywhere.

In CS3, I'm able to smudge inward on brushed lines without having to "Sample All Layers".

For some reason I can't do that in CS5...

    Anyone care to help?

Isn't there a button that lets you decide if you want to do all layers, or just one layer?

I see what you mean. I've looked in the preferences etc. and i fail to find anything that would solve the problem. They may have re-worked how the tool works, or it could be because its a pre-release and its a bug.

The only way i can think to do it, is to fill the layer with black first. Then do your smudging on that layer (because the black gives it pixel data to work with, the smudge tool doesn't recognise transparent), then select the channels to isolate the layer from black and delete. Or you will just have to use CS4.

Yh... sample layers, which he clearly stated.

    Thanks a lot.
I'll probably try this out. It's been frustrating me, I can't do good quality smudging.
I've been smudging on a white layer and magic-wanding the white out of it, then just liquifying and trying layer modes...
