Ok so I've watched both series these are my first impressions:
Ok there is a lot of things you can do with history. From Fate/Zero to Sengoku Basara, the options are pretty vast. But the #1 thing you don't want to do is create a whole bunch of characters give them powers, and say "this is ghandi" or "this is nobunaga" because that's what their name is. Sadly, that's exactly what this series does. Gives a whole bunch of kids powers that are supposed to relate to history, then say "This is that person from history".
It's embarrassing how badly they portray the powers and their historical characters. It's as if they read a one word sentence on each and made the characters off of that. The weapons are just....really uninspired. Oh ghandi stood for peace, must give him a shield. Isaac newton discovered gravity, lets give her a gravity device. Nobunaga used guns, lets give her a gun. Jack the ripper used knives, lets give him a knife.
This basically adds up to a super-power against giant...sea creatures, with names of historical figures. Try this, name all the people by japanese names and this show has the same plot and becomes disturbingly generic. Without any good action scenes to note so far.
If not the worse thing here is the missed opportunity. It's like they couldn't get the rights to bigger names, I had to actually research some of these people because they were of such minor importance to history as a whole I wasn't even aware they existed.(talking about the opening characters, not the ones that have appeared so far).
Minor oddity with this show, the colors keep changing for no reason. I understand shows like Jojo's Bizarre Adventure doing this for the style, but this one just does it at complete random. Like literally one camera angle during talking just switched the hair color of the main character....while she was talking.
So far: This series is "mediocre".
Nobunaga The Fool.
It's hard to say what makes this series worse than Nobunagun. The use of generic mechs, the two worlds that are entirely apart but somehow can reach each other, or the fact that the entire series is based in medival/feudal Japan/England, yet spaceships and mechs are walking around with no explanation as to why people are living in the same way in feudal japan with futuristic technology.
No, so far two things make this show just outstandingly worse. The entire disregard to any historical figures(even the two main characters), and the fact that nothing is explained whatsoever even with a 3 minute exposition.
Why is there mechs? Dunno, just go with it.
Why is space travel possible but entering the atmosphere isn't? Dunno just go with it.
Why is Jean D'arc not a symbol for a powerful woman? Dunno just go with it.
Why is nobunaga a generic "powerless kid" who stumbles upon power and then fights the badguys? Dunno just go with it.
Why is there a plot for the "emperor king" of nobunaga, but it isn't explained? Dunno just go with it.
So far this series is: Immediate drop.
-Bad series I can watch 3-5 episodes, this one I had to force myself to watch two.
