    GTX 970's start off mid $300's (Assuming there is no sale and it's not off of craigslist). If you ONLY have $300 to spend go for a GTX 960.

    I have a GTX970 and love it! Best 900 series card IMO as the 980 is overpriced and the 960 isn't to better then a 770titan up to you though

    If you want 1440p ultra get an R9 390 don't be fooled by 970 3.5GB VRAM Haha!

    Also keep in mind that while running AMD your power consumption and heat output is ridiculous.
    R9 390 - 256 Watts (Rec: 600+ Power supply)
    GTX 970 - 145 Watts (Rec: 400+ Power Supply)

    While being more cost effective they produce the same heat as the sun and wastes the same amount of power as the Chernobyl melt down.
    I typically don't recommend AMD to clientele unless they are very adamant about it.
