    Definitely the 7970, the 680 isn't worth the extra $200.

    matrix all the way especially if you have a rog motherboard because then you can plug cables from your card to your motherboard so you can hardware control your voltage gpu clock and all that good stuff

    The difference isnt big enough to cover the $200. Get the 7970
    And, you can overclock both easily in MSI Afterburner, to answer your question basically.

    ^ this. Check out OBS, it's pretty damn neat for local recording too (it has one of the best capture methods & the encoding settings are completely customizable).

    In my opinion I would get the GTX 680. Although over priced, Nvidia has not failed to amaze me yet.

    Nvidia is better as a company, and i even use a GTX 680. But i would go for the Matrix because its cheaper, looks better and you can OC it better.

    Or you go for Nvidia and wont havy any problems.
