Linux Ubuntu 2.10 and Nvidia GTX 580

    I tried installing Ubuntu 2.10..

    Currently running Win7 64 bit..
Ubuntu however just seems to screw me over. I get a "Graphics Lockup", people tell me this:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get --purge remove xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
    sudo apt-get install linux-headers-`uname -r`
    sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install nvidia-current
    sudo update-alternatives --config gl_conf
    sudo ldconfig
    sudo update-initramfs -u
    sudo nvidia-xconfig
But I can't even get to the terminal, it also freezes for me.. Help please.

Why are you installing 2.10 when the lates is 12.4 or 13.4?
That could be it, compatability issues. A later version will have more recent drivers built in.

If I go to the Ubuntu website, that's the most recent update..

I believe he meant 12.10, it's the latest version that's more stable compared to 13.04.
