Yes. Although fate heavily reflects on your actions therefor you are able to change the course of your future, for the better or worse, luck also comes in play, to better your fate. It is quite a balence of many things, and I don't have time or the patience to further explain myself.
@G Seems like you can't explain yourself, considering what your saying contradicts the very definition(or at least the first 3 from google ) of the word. If you can influence your fate it's not fate.

Not if you throw a deity into the equation.

Every time we try to stick wings in pigs it ends in a bloody mess
LOL I don't belive in fate. After all we are born with free will.
We make our own choices. Life its like those visual novels japanese make for PC, but with a slight modification: the choices he have to make in order to advance are ours and are made by us. They aren't pre-defined. At least thats what i think.

So, u believe? (cuz i dindt understad whut u said )
Nah, there is no reason for it to exist, someone could say that what happened was fate, but really it is just based on decisions that everybody made themselves.
Its like predicting the future, if someone came back and told you that you would have a car accident in the next 24hrs, then you probably wouldn't drive for the next 24hrs so there would be no accident, but then it would not have been the future.
Its really just deciding if time has one path or many.
