Can my friend start playing without Buying?

Hello! I guess this question has been brought up several times, i couldn't find it anyways... So, my friend is interested of starting playing DayZ.
Is there like any way at all to start playing DayZ without actually purchasing Arma 2: Combined Operations? Can he like download a torrent of the Combined Operation and then buy a CD-key from a seller? I mean its like 2$ for a key, it would be alot more cheaper that way.

Yep that would work if you buy a key off a key seller

I suggest that if he doesn't hack that he should buy a steam key. These stolen keys won't benefit him

if he will just be playing short term just buy keys off a key seller, if not you're better off buying from steam (unless he's hacking)

He could download a torrent and buy a key for like 2-3 bucks and change but he will get globally banned or cd key in use every 2 or 3 days
