A question about staff

This is a strange feeling for me.

I used to be in the old warez scene for a long long time, I kept getting invited to private forums and in each one I was quickly promoted to staff levels due to my help and advice!

Now I am here, totally interested in learning EVERYTHING there is to know about SE'ing - I'm a phone salesman so can SE face to face quite easily - but I am an absolute beginner compared to some of these guys! This isn't a nice feeling!!!

Just wondering what it takes to become staff here? What do I need to do to achieve my goal? Who's arse do I kiss?

What does SEing have to do with becoming staff?

If you want to become staff you should be dedicated and contribute to a section and then apply (when applications are held).

There are different requirements on different sections and it takes a lot of work and dedication to get to the higher ranks.
Usually the requirements are that you're active in that specific section, you have a set amount of time as a member and a number of posts in that section or total.
This to avoid people making new accounts just to do this.
The different ranks are: Minion, Minion+, MOD, Global MOD.
The other ones you are not likely to achieve. Such as Staff Admin.
