infected with antivirus

i got infected with a virus looking like an antimalware program ,called antimalwaresomething, and an anti virus with a numbre as name. they popup telling you you have loads of malware and you need to buy them. it blocks your internetconnection and unables you to use your browser, antivirus, taskmanager and most other .exe files by saying the are infected and closing them. can you help me?
my friend has it to, we think we got it by visiting thepiratebay (not through the downloading)

Go in safe mode so windows only starts basic things during startup , hoping it won't start the virus . Then . . .

Three options

1. Delete virus program files , go to application settings ( C:\Documents and Settings\*younamehere*\application data ) and delete virus settings ( check the other accounts too just in cause )( Make sure you can see hidden folders ) , run CCleaner Portable on a flash drive . Clean Computer, Clean Registry , Remove virus startup item if any

2. Try scanning your computer when in safe mode with USB Drive Antivirus 3.0 if you can INSTALL an antivirus such as AVG in safe mode , then do that and before scanning, update virus definitions !

3. If the top doesn't work well . . . wait until I get another idea , I used two had a virus like you , but I had to hard drives with XP on one and 7 on one so I used Shaw Secure on the XP one and scanned the 7 one and removed the virus safely

@ 1: not the best idea, he probably won't know what to remove and what not. And your instructions are for XP only.

@ 2: rather use a "real" AV like MS Security Essentials Beta, Kaspersky, Bitdefender...

@ 3: that's a decent idea, but I doubt he has another installation. He could try WinPE though...

Personally I suggest you get CCleaner or something that can easily disable startup applications. Then disable all the startup apps you can and restart, install an AV (MS Security Essentials, AVG Home are 2 good free ones) and make a complete system scan. And I doubt you got this virus just by visiting TPB.

i have avg 9.0 home and ccleaner, the virus dissabled both and internet aswell so i couldn't check on this thread or download anything.
yet we both fixed it, my friend reinstalled his os. i rebooted my pc, quickly opened taskmanager and closed the 'av' and scanned with avg, now i also used ccleaner to do the startup thing and i think i fixed it

Well, next time you should try to get into your msconfig/ccleaner and disable it from startup then reboot and fix your stuff. Something like that happend to my old pc. Or just get Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and run a scan, and remove all the stuff it finds.

Actually quite often when browsing TPB, kaspersky will pop up with a virus from the banners. Good website to find programs, movies, etc however do so at your computers own risk.

Chances are the above comment also describes the threadstarter since he posted

i use IE which i know sucks but my gf seems to like it over firefox so we use IE. I never had that problem when i used firefox, both with default settings and an av/as and firewall.
