Sad truth is that since we were kinda late to the tech race we ended up starting off with better shit - optic fibre is a standard here, and my speeds aren't even that good. Also Dave's jelly of the cheap datacenter access I can get.

19" rack / 100Mbit/100Mbit min speeds / 8 fixed IPs / no need to bind yourself for a certain time period / 24/7 support ... all for under a hundred bucks.

Differentiate between bytes (B) and bits (b). I'm pretty sure you're supposed to have 10Mbps, not MBps, which roughly translates to 1.25MB/s (depending on whether we're talking mega- or mebi- bytes here). Seeing as you're most likely getting some overhead and that you haven't optimized your download settings, It's not even too bad.
