How exactly does the resolver work? Is there any way to protect yourself against it? Or is it just a major fuckup with Skype's servers itself?

Well most "traditional" resolvers take advantage of the fact that Skype keeps records of the last known IP that you've been seen with and uses an outdated/patched Skype client to print out these IP addresses, even if you're not friends with them.

Mine is slightly different, it monitors Skype's TCP connections and makes a link between the IP and the Skype name, although I will not reveal how it does that, but it's nothing really advanced tbh. The limitation for my little educational test is that you must be friends with the person and have established a TCP connection at any point while the proggy is open.

Whether it actually works, I'm not sure. I haven't tried it (I don't understand why it would). The most reliable method would be to use a proxy or VPN.

I changed to Skype a long time ago, personally I only kept on using MSN as long as I did due to it's customization capabilities.

I ran some vbs script and I didn't pop up on resolvers anymore. I did add a bunch of randoms from MPGH though so I ended up abandoning it made a new one. You can run it through a proxy though.
