    Put this together for you.

CPU: cheaper than a great i7 but it's still a really good processor.
CPU FAN: Use this myself and it is everything you want a cooler to be while still a very good price. if you eventually overclock you'll still have great temps.
ASUS: great motherboard. asus is pretty reliable in that field. not much to say about that. it does contain many features.
RAM: good deal on that stuff right now from NCIX. 8 gigs is obviously all you'll need for any sort of gaming what so ever. faster is better @ 1600 MHZ
SSD & HDD: i built a rig for a buddy using that SSD and will vouch for it. it's great nothing sketchy about it and you really can't beat it with that price. 120 GB for your games and OS. The HDD i have myself 7200 RPM is just a good standard won't really be a problem to you. 1 TB allows for PLENTY of music, games, videos, photos, etc.
GPU: i've been wanting to talk about this one (; the new R9280x. omg. i'm jealous (x haha. anyways, check the benchmarks for yourself... its amazing.
CHASSIS: I use this case and have experienced great airflow throughout. easy mounting and loads of fan spaces. easy cable routing as well.
PSU: plenty of wattage. good make and model 80 plus gold.
MONITOR: I really just threw one in there cause i don't know what you size you want or anything. its your call. good monitor though.
PERIPHERALS: For the price that mouse is great, two extra buttons and it glows red. the keyboard has great reviews just about everywhere you buy it and i'm sure you'll be happy with it.

    PS. Everything glows RED (:

TL;DR - its a good pc and you'll save around $500 out of your $2000 with all the mail in rebates and what not

@3kc I know the website and I saw your build, I found these 2 compatibility notes
Mushkin Blackline 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory operating voltage of 1.65V exceeds the Intel Haswell CPU recommended maximum of 1.5V+5% (1.575V). This memory module may run at a reduced clock rate to meet the 1.5V voltage recommendation, or may require running at a voltage greater than the Intel recommended maximum.
Case fan compatibility checking is currently not supported.

as far as the ram, you can pick another just make sure you have 1600 MHz and 8 gigs dual channeled.

you're not really helping him stay very far under $2000. and with shipping that comes out to over $1900. the extra 8 gigs of ram and the blu-ray optical drive in that build are useless. he said his laptop isn't cutting it for gaming, not video editing and rendering. i'm pretty sure playing video games, he isn't going to notice the difference between 8 gigs and 16 gigs of ram, however he'll probably feel the difference in his wallet cause thats almost an extra $75. most people watch movies on netflix now. while he may be and exception, i highly doubt it.

the case fans work, i promise you that. its just that the website isn't able to check for incompatibilities in that field.

If he says his budget is 2000 than his budget is 2000. No point in saying 2000 then saying you don't want to spend that much. There's plenty of things that can utilise 16gb of ram, and he is more than capable of not buying 16gb if he wishes not to. I'm not twisting his arm or holding him at gun point, I'm showing him the kind of build he could get with the budget. Also not everyone has internet capable of streaming Netflix, again something you should note. Now you can either be civilised or you can go be a pretentious twat elsewhere.

as far as the budget comment, thats coming from him not me; if he hadn't said he wanted to spend less i wouldn't have criticized the ram or the optical drive. as far as my ram comment, go on ************.com and look at completed builds that specify they're used for gaming that also have 16 gigs of ram. i bet you there is more than enough comments criticizing the choice of ram.
