Of course you feel it. The brain is contained by bone of the skull, skin and muscle. Just think how painful it is when you chip a tooth, bump your head, pull out a single strand of hair, get hit on the nose, get an ear ache from a loud noise or just have dust in your eyes. Don't count on instant death saving you from any pain. It is common for people to live for a while after a gunshot wound. People often don't take into account the pressure of pulling the trigger when attempting suicide. As they squeeze the trigger they are fearful and point the gun off target. They blow a portion of their face or head off and suffer a slow death, maybe only minutes sometimes hours.

As revealed by the post above you, its purpose is to show that a "quick" death isn't always painless.

Just because you don't see a deeper meaning to something doesn't mean it's stupid. That in itself is stupid.
