First sig, i know it fucking sucks please rate/constructive criticissm

I know this is your first, but I did see the word criticism in the title.

Here goes:

1. Terrible size, sig sizes need to be long and skinny. Try 500 x 125.
2. You copied a picture for the background.
3. You didn't edit the picture that you copied.
4. You slapped text on a picture that you copied.
5. Ugly font type. Go to Dafon*****m for cool fonts
6. Don't use those font styles. Just don't.
7. Font doesn't blend with the "background".
8. NOBORDERNOBORDERITNEEDSABORDEROMG
9. Theres only 2 things I can critique on. It needs moar stuff.


Not bad for a first. My first was terrible, I liquified clouds, colored it orange and put text on it. (no seriously, it was that bad)

Go to Pixel2life and Effectica for tuts. Pixel2life = every kind | Effectica = Badass tech sigs

Also, if you're going to base your sig on a picture, do something with the picture (a lot of stuff). Otherwise Make your own BG from scratch.

Get brushes at Deviantart. Use brushes on EVERYTHING. Use brushes to give your sig a theme. Use them to blend a render. Use them to create a background. (if you do use them to create a background, try white on black, make a black layer at the bottom and then brush white on a seperate layer)

Use renders, not whole pictures. A good render database is planetrenders.

When creating text, (of course use a fitting text type), try to make it blend with the BG, but in one way make it contrast so it is easily noticeable and readable. Make a light text on a dark signature, and vice versa. Use blending options (overlay,softlight,etc) to blend better with BG. Sometimes duplicating the text layer can create good effects with blending options and other things.

A border is key. It is probably the easist and most vital part of a signature. It adds class and professional feel. The simplest border to do is to simply, create a new blank layer at the top of the pile, select a selection tool, click ctrl A to select the whole canvas, and then go to edit:stroke:1px, black, inside.

Another neat border is this:
Same thing as above, only when you get to stroke, first stroke 3 px black inside. Then stroke 2 px white inside, then stroke one last time 1 px black inside. Then set the layer with the border to soft light or overlay, and watch your beautiful border both define and meld with your sig.

500 x 125 is a terrible size, if you're using that change that shit, and no it definetely does not need a border. You dont need to use renders, stocks are very common and in my opinion most good sigs are made from stocks.

If you just used text, its a bad sig, text usually is very simple.

500 x 125 is great size (its just an example, different ppl like different sizes, I've used tons of sizes, that just happens to be my favorite). And borders make sigs look 10 times bigger, even if its just a black line around the edges. Of course it depends on what kinda sig you're making, if you want the sig to be like obama's or something, no, a border would be bad, but standard sigs need borders. Trust me. I do professional graphics designing, company logos, etc. I think I'd know a little something about a generic forum signature.

Btw did I say renders were necessary?

Also I forgot about stocks, my bad, stocks are good too. You can also get stocks from planetrenders. *cough*

Ooh and while we're at it, no one mentioned c4ds? USE THEM. They're great. Just don't go too overboard with them and make yourself a cookie cutter signature. Once again, you can find them at planetrenders.

Sheesh, I make a few simple suggestions and ppl start flaming wtf?

Also, you don't want to ever rely on a tut soley for a signature. It looks really boring/generic/overused. I'm not saying don't use them, but if you're going to use them, don't follow everything step by step. (unless the product from the TUT is just one article/peice of your signature) Steer clear from the well followed path. Put in your own flair. Use multiple tuts in one signature. Make your style complement someone else's work.
