Personally I feel this is the best fan arc for gaming rigs. (If you can make a custom fan arc on yours. Mine is an MSI GTX 970.)

To start, fans aren't even necessary at 30 celsius, as that's plenty chilly for a GPU. This also saves the fan life and GPU life by keeping the fan usage minimal.

At gaming load (Generally 50/60C), the fan begins to kick into it's mid power range (40-60%), quietly cooling the GPU and keeping the temp a steady 30-40C as opposed to anything higher. If some event occurs to make the GPU heat up to around 70C (never had it happen), it kicks in nearly at full throttle and cools it right away and steadily falls back down to 30C.

Works great, always keeps my GPU down at about 30 celsius.

Mine's not quite as elegant as that. I don't really care what temp my 960 runs at as long as it's reasonable. I don't bother having fans even running till I hit 40 then that scales up to 20% at 60 which is about my average while benchmarking on stock clocks. Then it just scales straight up 100% at 75 so if it ever manages to get that hot, it wont be for long. The only problem with this is when I'm stress testing an overclock, if my temp is fluctuating about above 60 then my fans to tend to rev and fall which can be a tad irritating but even on overclock speeds it doesn't reach that kinda temp when gaming so I'm not bothered by it.
