    I follow a routine.
50minutes study time, 10minutes rest and continue till tired.
Read read read. Once you are confident, close the book and test yourself again. If you get wrong, write it out. Close book and test again.
Until an important concept is correctly answered the way you wanted, move on with a reward.

Sit in class, listen to teacher, then go home, not study, when test come, just do it, ease it. This may seem hard for some people but if you have a good memory it's pretty easy c:

Review notes and do homework, study little by little every unit over a course of a couple of weeks before a final exam.

Everyone learns different and this is true for reviewing as well. Of course, others are better at retaining information and require less reviewing than others. For example, I rarely ever have to actually study and this was true throughout high school and less true now that I'm in college however in classes such as my math classes our finals we were permitted an 8.2x11in cheat sheet -- I didn't use one, ever, and still was able to obtain the highest score.

Here's some tips I'd suggest if you're having issues with retaining information from class and also issues with reviewing/studying:

    • 25-5 is a good rule you can find a lot of information about on the internet (may be called something else). If you're someone who lacks the attention span to sit down and study for prolonged periods of time, then don't force it because you'll end up not studying anything and guaranteed you will forget it. Study for 25 minutes and take a 5 minute break. This gives your brain a break from the studying / reviewing so it's not overworked and our brain reacts well to routine -- keep doing this and you'll have a better chance at actually retaining the information you're studying for when it comes test time.
    • Personally, rewriting notes is not my thing and I've never done it for any test that I have had to study for. It's better for kinesthetic learners and although you may be one, rewriting notes just isn't one of the best ways to study because you're just copying. I had a compsci teacher in high school that taught the class that way, you copied the code off the board but no one's understanding why or how he's doing it so no one actually learned and couldn't program a website or anything at the end of the semester because all they did was copy. Copying is not a learning method nor is it a studying method in my opinion. Read your notes, question your notes and refer to classwork (implying you're in high school) to emphasize it.
    • Referring to my first tip, cramming is not a good idea. If you have a good amount of time prior to your exam cramming will not help you and will actually hurt you because you're straining your brain and stressing yourself out. Make sure you plan out things such as studying in the future and aren't doing it two nights, a night before. After about ~3 hours of "studying" our brain then just junks everything after that. I had a teacher that said if you're staying up past 12 and you're tired and still studying it's just about the same as going to bed and not studying at all because how can your brain basically be in shutdown mode and still be expected to remember or actually learn something?

Just don't cram it in, get good night sleep, study every half hour. NEVER EVER study on test night. (P.S: I always do the opposite but I still pass, but I don't rec, I only study ahead of time for those big big tests and even that is only like a week)

Right now a good majority of my examinations revolve around systems. I usually learn a basic engineering drawing and practice drawing it a few times and understand how it works.

Yes if you need more help with academic organizing and that I believe I have a post from a while ago explaining how to really set yourself straight for success. I'll try and find it now!

edit: too far back I'd have to search for the thread but I don't remember it. Oh well, still stands, if you need anymore tips or anything feel free to throw me a PM I'd be happy to help out with stuff like this.
