These are the gold standard among romance Anime. I can't think of a better starting point. Maison Ikkoku also serves as a bridge to the amazing Urusei Yatsura as well as the better known Ranma 1/2.

dude cannot get into any of Takahashi Rumiko's works they all have shitty characters repeated gags and stupid as fuck interactions. I have no idea why her works are so popular. does her stuff get any better in the latter? or is the same shit?

The only thing I've ever liked from her is InuYasha.
