    Question Learning Multiple Languages Simultaneously

    Would it be counterproductive to attempt to learn multiple languages at the same time?

    No, it's not. If you can learn 2 or more languages at the same time, go ahead.

    I'm currently learning PHP and starting to learn Java for Android.

    It depends on what languages you are aiming at, but generally, I would advise against it. If you are looking into web development, you are eventually going to use multiple languages at once (i.e JavaScript, Ruby, PHP, etc). Learning multiple languages simultaneously may cause you to feel confused and mix up the syntaxes sometimes; however, it can also strengthen your linguistic abilities, making you able to solve problems better. On the other hand, it will take longer to become good at one specific language.

    If you insist, choose languages of similar structure and syntax, such as Java and C#.

    I would advise against it, just focus on one language.
    If you are generally new to coding it is the best to know one language, because then if you get more advanced you can learn other languages more easily.

    If I wanted to learn 2 languages at the same time I would pick C# and vb.net because they are both .NET assemblies, and very similar.

    It is confusing every time. Doesn't matter you are learning or doing it since years.
    Or it is only my fail.
    I was coding some javascript and then want to coding Pascal i want to declare variables with = instead of :=
    or i want ending an Autohotkey Codeline with ;
    or i want to compare string in Perl with == instead of eq
    Happens still today.

    Many programming languages may be similar because they keep computation principles. As the syntax may be different from a programming language to another programming language, however each one has his paradigms and idioms. I don't think a C# only programmer can cosily develop with low level programming language like C.

    IMO it depends on your experience. If you are already a experienced coder you can easily learn two new languages simultaneously. If you are still a beginner, I would advise against it too because it might be confusing.
