We all know it's better not to overheat your brake pads while driving off a harsh slope. I personally drive a Ford Focus Mk1 (2001, front brakes use a braking disk, rear ones use drums), I prefer manual over automatic whatsoever but over time I will have to go on trips and drive off mountains so I would eventually have to learn how to "engine brake".
I know the trick shift a gear down, but let's take for instance:
I'm driving off a slope and I'm in 2nd gear, it will eventually rise my RPM and at a certain point there's a turn so I have to soft my car out, shall I go with regular brakes? I mean is it okay to only apply the engine braking when I want to slow down, because I think you gotta be fast if you wanna do it correctly and not fall off possibly?
You may post trolling answers too, but I would like some serious responses too.
