Wrong. Versions change, sometimes drastically. That's why VAC bypassers are so hard to code for, every time one goes public, Valve patches for it, and they get more difficult to make. So cracks don't always work the same from version to version.

Wow. So this morning i was still able to join a game server and get kicked like 5 sec after joining a game with a message "cheat detected"
Well now, I cant even get that to work. When i start up my legit copy of MW2 (one that is banned), game freezes, second window pops up with a console and an error message saying "cheat detected". i cant even do anything now, I think they are clearly on to us

This thread is about bypassing VAC with Zero Gear...Are you on the same page as the rest of us here? Have you tried this?

Also, it sounds like others are having this issue even when playing legit. There's a 48 page thread on the Steam forums about this exact same error, although the posts were on the 4th of this month. Same thing though, "Connecting to IWNet...". Maybe it's on their end and we just caught it at a bad time?
