New Job, No Training (Yet) - Cashiering Advice

Got a new job as a cashier in PC World (UK Technology retailer) and its a pretty big store.
I haven't had training yet (it's at another date) and im being thrown on a 9 hour shift tomorrow morning with no prior experience.

Is there anything I could ask about my shift/training and any general advice on cashiering jobs?
Kinda worried I'll end up mishandling money

Know math is the main thing cashiers need to have, if you can't really do that then how are you gonna give back the amount which was needed? Unless they are paying by a card.

Most cashier machines you can input amount given and it will show you how much to give back

Those are automated cashiers, if you have that in there then you shouldn't worry about them

    If not

then well you need use math... My coworker said she doesn't know math as much and she is a cashier.

If cash registering systems are automated it will indeed show the amount you need to give. (Most stores do have these nowadays). It's pretty simple, scan the item, check the amount, request the amount to be given, give back the money they are obligated to get and ask if they would like to get a receipt.

    1.) Scan item
2.) Put it in bags if needed
    3.) Input in machine
4.) Take money and make sure it's real (anything 50 and above you should check IMO)
5.) Give items and give receipt (I think you should just GIVE it to them even if they don't want it)

Why wouldn't they want what they just bought?

Jesus I can't even ask a legit question without it being considered a shitpost. Sorry boss, next time I will just have to wonder for the rest of my life what he was talking about. Thank you for answering my question though.

It's always good to know your math, regardless of whether or not the machine tells you how much to give someone back in change. If you don't know math, and your tiny brain starts to struggle when you start pulling change out of that register, then you're gonna fuck up

I'm all good with quick mental maths like money change.

Just more nervous about how others will treat me and how to make friends easily at the new place.
