Liberalism is tolerant in its governance, meaning it's fair to everyone, including immigrants and the underprivileged, and not soft on the rich and powerful. Whether or not someone who agrees with liberalism is tolerant of other viewpoints is irrelevant, as that's not the purpose, (even though most are). Fringe minorities who do stuff like this are just shitty people in general, and not because they're political extremists. A mean-spirited republican will do things like this to liberals, and vice versa. A mean spirited person will also key your car because you have the wrong sports team bumper sticker, in no way is that indicative of the sports team in itself, or the general populace of its fans.

I agree with you that those actions have no place in America, but the reality is that crappy people exist, and they aren't going anywhere. Using their actions to point toward any political ideology being invalidated by their actions isn't logically sound. A pretty solid counter to this is as such, since a large majority of Republicans are Christians: If a serial killer says he kills in the name of god, are Christians evil? Aren't they supposed to be tolerant. It's pretty clear how ridiculous that sounds.
