Essentially it's a tradition.

Starting at 1,337 posts and continuing on to 2,000, 3,000, and so on you can request a celebratory ban. Typically, staff use this as a temporary break from their duties here on MPGH. This tradition also applies for your birthday, if you so wish. It is not required to be banned, but skipping out on a "post ban" is usually frowned upon.
