So I live in California and they're pretty much anal about anything and everything and one of the things that they don't allow are butterfly knives (balisongs) but I was still able to get one without any hassle and at a great price.

The best place to get them would be at DHGate because unlike other regulated sites, DHGate is 100% China so they don't give a fuck. If you pay them, they will ship it. I got my blade within 2 weeks and they had tracking as well. Their return policy/refund policy is extremely close to eBay so if you aren't happy with your stuff just send it a ticket and they'll side with you a give you a refund. This shouldn't be a problem though because the seller that I bought from had a good amount of reviews and tons of sales on that specific item.

Now to the fun part: choosing your blade. Hands down, the best butterfly knife maker would be Benchmade. They are a United States based company that has created a fantastic line of butterfly knives in the past but they have discontinued many of their favorite models such as the Benchmade 42. The real deal costs a few hundred dollars but a replica (I wouldn't say these are fake because they are as good as the real thing) are around $40 tops. They are deadly sharp and they operate like butter. There are other models like the Benchmade 42, 43, 44, so on and so forth. The only difference is the blade style. Would you want a straight blade or a curved one?

You can do a search for yourself to find other reputable sellers or at a cheaper price. They search keywords are: "benchmade 42" or "bm42"

Overall, I think you would be really happy about the quality. I've had mine for about a year now and its still sharp (I use it often to cut stuff) and it still flips like butter. Really sturdy and it looks and operated exactly like the real thing.

It's a butterfly knife. It is unsharpened because some people like having their knives sharpened by themselves or someone they know, also so that they don't cause any issues while being shipped/packaged. It is expensive because of the materials that it is made of/its design
