After recently doing a major upgrade on all of my PC parts, I am upgrading slowly now.
So I recently upgraded from a EVGA 500w White Certified PSU to a Kingwin 850w ABT-850MM PSU. Just installed it today, and it looks like everything is going good.
Here's my current PC specs for anyone who was wondering. (if I am upgrading anything Ill say so!)
Current PC Specs
CPU - Intel Core i5 4690K oc'd to 4.5 GHz
GPU - Gigabyte GTX 960 Mini ITX Overclocked /w 4 GB Vram (upgrading to a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 WINDFORCE OC 6G soon)
Heatsink/Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
PSU - Kingwin 850w ABT-850MM
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI
RAM - Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB @ 1600
Case - Redbone ATX Mid Tower U3

imo, there was no need to get a 850w power supply, as time goes on, parts require less power and unless you see yourself going to sli a 1080/1070, there was no need for the psu, a 600w one would have done just fine, and is good enough for future-proofing
While you're right, a quality 850w PSU might be the last PSU you buy for years and years to come. And it's good peace of mind knowing that no matter what upgrades you do to your computer (outside of crazy CrossFire builds), your PSU can take it. Both of those reasons are why I bought my EVGA 850W G2 a year ago and I'm just running a 2500K and a 1080.

I agree 850w is overkill, but if it is capable of producing 850w it is sure to be reliable for PCs with a lower power draw.
