This is the sequel to ChäoS;HEAd, but you don't necessarily need to watch to watch the prequel to be able to watch this. You'll miss a couple things, but it's not mandatory. Enjoying it so far.

ChäoS;HEAd was indeed very lacking, but ;Child is seeming pretty neat. It's currently the anime I'm most looking forward to the next episodes. (That doesn't mean I consider it the BotS, I'm just enjoying it the most.)
