Few questions from an inspired beginner

So I have somewhat familiarized myself with the basics of injecting images. What would one suggest for applying skins to dark/black guns, as in what suggestions do you guys have for preserving the shape detail when you can barely see it?

Also does anyone know of an example or tutorial on making custom weapon effects such as laser cannons or custom muzzle flash? I've found ruts on weapon swapping but can't find any on 3d editing. I've used Maxtor c4d before and understand that side slightly but as for actually exporting in an editable format, I can't locate any info on t. I'll continue to search but thanks in advance for any suggestions
