vb is really hard to make an antivirus, but again c++ is easier, the only tuts ive seen online, were ones that look for the text "virus" in it... so not very helpful

Specific File/Virus Removal Applications in VB are easy, but trust me when I say, You will need a team of more then adequate developers, maintenance alone will be hard. Plus the Anti-Virus/Spyware/etc business is not a "trusting" industry, release some Worm Removers etc first, build credibility in the industry, Then try and move forward.

I am ok with your ambitions, and I say go for it, just progress slowly.

You could work on a behavorial based antivirus as opposed to a signature one. I mean the skill required is still high. But the upkeep due to signatures is nothing.

Hashes are pointless because if 1 bit is changed in the file than the whole hash changes.
