when i have the dtx file of a gun like the ak-47 loaded up in photoshop what do i have to do to make it semi transparent or completely invisible in the game?

on the .dtx ; when you open it with photoshop; see the channels ; check alpha & make it all black . It should make the textures transparent but doesn't work for walls =(

Oh and there is another way : HexEdit

i tried what you said but had no luck and i don't know how to hex edit so i'm just gonna give up. thanks for all the help guys

No; because you have to find which part to edit & if you fail it will look fucked up or your game will d/c ....

hex edit would be the difficult way to do it, doing it through the textures may be easier but seeing how for glass walls rez you have to edit certain files and the textures, i don't think there is a way to avoid the hex edit part
