    Need some advice

    Alright, well...

My laptop recently took a shit on me, and I discovered it was harddrive damage. I don't know how the hell that happened, since its been sitting on my desk for the last week... but whatever.

I've tried many different things, but to no avail. Its shit now. So i need a new hdd for my laptop.

I do have a WD Passport external HDD. I took it apart and found its almost the same specs as my previous harddrive. So I replaced the old HDD with my WD passport. (at this point, I've taken the WD passport out of its case, and placed it into the laptop.) Since my previous HDD kicked the bucket, I knew I'd have to reinstall Windows. I started up the installation, but it doesn't detect the new HDD (WD passport.) I'm stumped.

I REALLY DON'T WANT TO BUY A NEW ONE. I had just bought this HDD (old one) about a month ago. 500GB Hitachi.

If anyone knows what to do, or has any ideas, I'd greatly appreciate.

It wouldn't be external if its in my laptop would it?
I've seen videos and read some posts about other people doing this, and it working fine.

I don't want to use my POS Dell desktop. Laptops ftw.

I just bought a new HDD for it, so it would really suck if I have to buy a new one...

    Your bios doesnt detect it.
contact the company that made your BIOS and see if they can help

Or it could just be that the External HDD has failed. Does it work on other computer?

Just try putting you HDD into a USB and just save everything to that instead

If it cant recognize it, your bios doesnt detect it. THe bios is what makes your computer not a piece of metal.

It could be that your HDD failed, or maybe there is a faulty connector

    FUUUUUUUCK.

My Dell desktop recognizes the external HDD. I have a USB to SATA cable that I'm using right to connect my external to my desktop...

It could be you have faulty SATA pins

    Just
1.get it checked by some professional
2.Contact the company that made the BIOS and see if they can help
