Have you tried this :

In the IDE, open the Project Properties pane from the
Solution Explorer. Expand Configuration Properties and the
Linker node. Click on General, look at Additional Library Directories.
Enter the path to the DirectX SDK Lib\x86 directory.

Dont bother. I just compiled it in vc 08 and it worked. no luck in vc 10
anyways whits base works fine no dc. close plz.

what u do is go to header files right click add > existing item and click on d3dx9.lib
