    my class mate started this on his own since he completed the 2nd semester of MM < projects and started moddeling cars in 3ds max, or something like this...easiest would be milk3d you can create basic game moddels and even import these into Game Maker with a simpel converter... so you can create a basic game later on try XNA and such you might become a big gamez developer or modeller.

    Honestly, I think 3ds max is actually a good software for learning. I used Blender for about 4 days before I went to 3ds, then learned eveything from there. Its got a lot of easy shortcuts and presets that help you learn quick.
