And he's right, the render (it's still a render, because you cut it out of the stock) does need to blend with the brushes more. It's not a very smooth transition.
What you could do though, is put the render on top, and put a transparent/black gradient over it as a clipping mask. That way, the head is still visible, but the render darkens into the brushes, if that makes sense.
Then it will look more like he's part of the splatters. I assume that's what you were going for.
