Yes. I imagine that it's easier for the patcher to filter files with "*.nxgz" than to use a standard gz extension and possbly unzip other normal gzip files that may be present from other programs or operations.

Maybe it got patched nexon patched a few hacks.
That what nexon stated on HereFile Changes:
• Some Game files have been repackaged to reduce client size and improve performance.
those files are Nexon's version of a ".rar" file
so the rez file patch file is compressed in the file
they will go away when the patch is done
