    Technically we are animals too.

Certainly some of the more intelligent ones are. (IE chimps, dolphins, killer whales, Elephants, etc.)

I view us as animals as well. Compared to other animals, we are just more evolved... much more intelligent.

Some yes, most no. The capacity to be self-aware doesn't have a clear defining line. Becoming self-aware is far more a spectrum, spectrum in which we've defined ourselves as max.

Depends on your definition of self-aware. It could be either way (some/most); We don't know what other animals are thinking or their reasons for action.

Consciousness of mortality is probably a huge step after self awareness.

Their precise reasoning is irrelevant, what is important is there capacity to acknowledge their own existence like in the mirror experiments used to test for animals capacity to be self-aware.

They are conscious and adaptive, thus, they are self aware.

I can't say for sure but I believe that at the very least for some animals it has been said that they have some form of awareness of their being or something? As for the majority of animals I'm convinced they don't even have anything near the capacity required to gain self-awareness or self-consciousness.
