How to Create Your Own Media Server

Hello all, today I'll be showing you how to wirelessly view your media files on your PS3, which is also called media sharing. We will be using a specific program called TVersity. Of course, Windows Media Player supports media sharing, but it has bugs here and there, so we'll be sticking with TVersity. This program supports many devices such as:

    1. Devices supporting the UPnP AV / DLNA standard (which is the de-facto standard for connecitivity between devices in the digital home). This includes devices like game consoles (Xbox 360 and Sony PS3), networked TVs, DVDs, Stereo Receivers, Digital Media Adapaters/Receivers, Mobile Phones, Satellite and Cable set-top-boxes and more.
    2. Devices with a web browser (XHTML-MP or WAP 2.0) and media streaming or downloading capabilities like iPhone, Blackberry, the Sony PSP, Nokia N series, and other smart phones.
    3. Devices with Adobe Flash, this includes the Nintendo Wii.
    4. Devices with an RSS reader and media streaming or downloading capabilities like the Sony PSP, iTunes/iPod and more.

    Pro VS Free

TVersity Media Server lets you manage your Internet and home media and create your personalized lineup of channels, or as we call it your Personal Entertainment Guide (PEG). It then serves this media to a multitude of networked devices in the home or on the go, overcoming their inherent limitations by doing all the necessary conversions on the fly, and thus making your media available anywhere, anytime and on any device. It comes in two editions, a basic edition available for free and supported via user donations and a pro edition available for a small fee.

Of course, we are in a hacking forum, so we'll be using the PRO version of TVersity 1.9.3, the latest.

    How to Install

    1. Download the attachment and extract to your specified directory
    2. Install the file called “Install Me”
    3. After the installation finishes, go to Task Manager by either pressing CTRL – ALT – DELETE or just right click your task bar and click Task Manager.
    4. After that, look for a process called “TVersity.exe” and kill the process. There’s also another service called “MediaServer.exe”, which has to be killed by clicking the bottom left click saying “Show processes from all users”
    5. After that, go to the file called “Copy Me” and copy the contents in it to either
    6. 1. C:\Program Files\TVersity\Media Server (Default Folder) or
    2. C:\Users\"your user"\AppData\Local\TVersity\Media Server or
    3. C:\ProgramData\TVersity\Media Server
    7. After that, click on the TVersity shortcut, it will say there’s an error, just click “OK” and go to settings at the top, now here is says “Media Sharing” and under it says “Server is not running”, just click “Restart” and everything will be fine.
    8. After that just change the settings according to what you like it to be
Congratulations! You now have a Media Server. But don’t forget to go to “Network Settings” on your PS3 and click on “Enable” for “Media Sharing Connection”

    How to Add Files

    1. On your top left corner, there is a plus button, click it.
    2. Now choose any folder that has media files in it and click “Submit”
    3. Now go to “Video” or "Photo" or "Music" on your PS3, and navigate to “(NAME-PC): TVersity Media Server” – “Video” – “Movies” – “All” – “Your files”

There you have it, your own media server.

    Attachments are being uploaded...Done!

Just to inform you, if you're sharing, this DOES waste your bandwidth. I just knew that after my ISP informed me.
