Ethereal, in general though, lighting should flow across the entire body/render right?

Depends on where your light source is coming from.

In this piece it is coming from behind the right shoulder.
So flare lighting or just general direct perspective lighting would compliment it just fine.

What this means is basically have the lighting flare over the right shoulder and only cover a certain amount of that portion of the renders body, and try to keep the left sides lighting of the render balanced with the concurrent light on that side of the signature.
