Well I have yet to play multi-player, because frankly i did not like single player too much. But I would presuppose that there are maps to be chosen in the multi-player part, and therefore the screen can be modded to perhaps change the background, or even change the colors/map images etc.

example:
Make all people yellow so you can see them easier
or give weapons a cool glow or smth
