My friend recently bought an XBOX, so he was wondering if you install the game, can you play it without the disc any more?

Installing the game only prevents damage. So in the event his disc gets immensely fucked up, he can still play the game without worrying about game-read errors, etc. It also speeds up load times, and gives your disc drive more life.

But yes, you'd still need the disc in the tray to play.
