Yes, random event glitches need to be fixed. That and they should let you practice before you actually do a run that counts for rewards. On the bright side, it's a great training place as you can pray piety and bring your best gear without fear of death. I got 20k Strength EXP from the run alone on normal.

Do you keep your items on death, and can you do this unlimited times a day? Also, is this like Dungeoneering (on your own), or with a team of players? If like Dungeoneering botting scripts will arrive shortly

i don't know if you lose your items but you can only do this once a month ( with xp ).You can train the rest of the month to get better at this thing to get more xp next month.

Not until later levels...

Air runes (possible at level 1) make about 50k/h, water runes (possible at level 7 I think) make about 100k/h. Earth runes (possible at 13 orso) make about 75k/h.

So that's pretty high for a skill that requires only level 13.

(I haven't done this in a while so the prices are probably a bit lower)

It's a solo minigame, you can't lose items on death, and each wave gives you 5 full stat restores, special restores, health restores, and prayer restores. You can only get the reward once a month, but you can keep practicing for combat exp against the trolls.

I dunno about skilling, though.
