No need to patch but steam takes a long time to download the actual game, i think they have a limit or something.

steam AVA allows you to use all of the steam ingame features, not to mention the whole steam interface

It also lets you uninstall the IJJI reactor. with the steam version once you run ava it just opens something for the log in page, then you can start the game.

The steam download is also quicker
