The first one is good. The others pretty much suck ass.

The grass needs to look more realistic in the first one. The text looks more like a window rather than actual grass. If that's what you were aiming for I will say, go for real looking grass. Make some blades of grass come out. Don't do it half assed or it will look even shitier. Anyways I don't feel like commenting about the rest. The first one has the potential to be great.

I've seen the tuts for all these once or twice so I'm not gonna go into any details about them.

You can do anything. You just need to do it right. Doing it that way will require more effects to each individual blade of grass that you create for it to look legit. But yea that way would probably look better in the long run as long as you did it right. Just remember to have appropriate lighting and shading.
