This tutorial is about modeling, actually you can do more shapes than the default ones, which is really important for creating things such a logo.
Let's start, I'll open up my project preset, which is "HDV/HDTV 720 29.97".
I will create something similar to my avatar
Let's create a Tube and rotate it like so:
Now I'm gonna change its inner radius and outer radius, and important thing, its segments! Getting sumthing like this:
Once you've selected your favourite shape, you can add caps, or whatever, it's time to make the Tube "editable".
NOTE: once you do that, you can't go back and change again its segments or its radius, so be careful.
To make something editable, just select it, and press C.
Seems that nothing has changed, but it did, the object is now ready to be edited, and there are 3 things you can select and edit:
Point tool
Edge tool
Polygon tool
I'll use the Polygon tool, and as you can notice, the tube segments turned into Blue, that's good, look:
Of course, we must select something to edit. so open up the Selection task, and click on Live Selection.
This way you will select the polygons you want to model:
Of course, there are other selection tools, just try them and see what's better for your use
So I've selected my area, now let's play with it..
Right click on the selected area, and look for
Bevel
Extrude
Extrude Inner
Matrix Extrude
Smooth Shift
Those are your modeling tools.
I will use Extrude for now, and see what happens..
Pretty cool, let's render it to see what we're doing.
We'll add lights later..
Now play with it, Meanwhile, I did this:
Just added some particles on the internal side of the tube..
Let's use Bevel now.. Bevel smooths your polygons, check it out
Now select "Bevel"
And this is the result:
Easy as a pie!
Now play with it, create your favourite shape, use other selection tools, make some materials for it, light the scene, and you will be able to create something like this:
Don't worrie, the last pic is the model of my avatar, it just has Text (You can see Extrude Nurbs, Extrude Nurbs1, and MoText), it has a camera, and 2 Softboxes, which are just lights.
Actually I've bought the lightkit from a site, but trust me, also normal lights will work, or if you wanna make it perfect, use global illumination (check my tutorial about making the scene more realistic)
Thanks for reading! And if you want, check my video about my Wheels models, they're great!
